Le ministre de la défense du Brésil en visite chez Thales Alenia Space
The delegation was led by Raul Jungmann, Brazilian Minister of Defense, Elton Santa Fe Zacarias, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, Nivaldo Luiz Rossato, Commander in the Brazilian air force, Alvani Adao da Silva, head of strategic affairs at armed forces headquarters, and Flavio Basilio, secretary for defense products.
Antonio Klinder Loss Leite, Chairman of Telebras, and Eduardo Bonini, CEO of Visiona, also made the trip to Cannes. This prestigious Brazilian delegation was in Thales Alenia Space’s clean rooms for a very specific purpose.
In just a few short months, Brazil’s SGDC dual (civil & military) telecom satellite will be shipped from Cannes to the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana, for an Ariane 5 launch scheduled for March 2017.
The SGDC program
Thales Alenia Space and the Brazilian space agency signed an agreement to build the SGDC satellite for Visiona, while also inking a Memorandum of Understanding concerning an ambitious technology transfer plan, designed to support the development of Brazil’s own space program.
Results so far in this win-win partnership with Brazil are very promising.
- The SGDC satellite is now in final integration configuration. It passed the Pre-Shipment Review in October, and the satellite will be shipped from this plant to the launch site in February.
- Thales Alenia Space has established a unit at the San José dos Campos technology park in Brazil, to work more closely with its local customers and partners.
- It has met its skills transfer commitment, since over 30 Brazilians have been trained in all space engineering techniques, supervised by the Thales Alenia Space program team.
- An aluminium battery support panel made by the Brazilian company CENIC is already integrated on the SGDC satellite.
