internacional ‘Mars Sample Return’. Esta nueva misión al planeta rojo está concebida para traer a la Tierra muestras de la superficie de Marte. Representa un avance importante en la exploración del Sistema Solar, el conocimiento sobre su formación y especialmente en el estudio de Marte y las preguntas sobre su posible habitabilidad.\u003c/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eA pesar de no estar muy lejos de la Tierra dentro de nuestro Sistema Solar, Marte es bastante diferente a nuestro planeta, en especial por las temperaturas, que oscilan entre máximas de 27ºC y mínimas de -133ºC. Sin embargo, existen varias similitudes, incluyendo una duración de su día similar a nuestro día de 24 horas y la presencia de estaciones. La existencia de vida en Marte no se puede descartar, teniendo en cuenta que ha habido agua líquida en su superficie y que se han hallado minerales que solo se forman en presencia de agua.\u003c/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eLa sonda ExoMars, construida por Thales Alenia Space, fue lanzada en 2016 para detectar señales de vida en Marte. El lander transportará el SFR, que recogerá las muestras de la superficie marciana tomadas por el Mars Rover 2020 de la NASA. El SFR transferirá estas muestras a un mini-cohete (Mars Ascent Vehicle, desarrollado por la NASA), que las trasportará a la órbita marciana. Una vez las muestras hayan sido localizadas y capturadas por el ERO, las muestras se aislarán en un sistema de contención biológica para prevenir cualquier contaminación de la Tierra con esta materia no esterilizada. El ERO abandonará entonces la órbita marciana y volverá a la Tierra. Cuando llegue a la órbita de la Tierra, expulsará la cápsula de entrada a la Tierra con las muestras y estas serán recuperadas en tierra firme y analizadas.
