Led by ESA, the program, carried out under Thales Alenia Space’s industrial prime contractorship, will deliver a European rover capable of driving autonomously on the Martian surface. Scheduled to reach Mars in 2030 after a long interplanetary voyage, this rover will be fitted with a drill developed by Leonardo to collect core samples up to two meters deep. The chemical, physical and biological properties of the collected samples will be analyzed using the onboard mini-laboratory, named the Analytical Laboratory Drawer (ALD), aboard the rover.
